    Course execution and auxiliary measures


    1. Basic Curriculum, Core Curriculum, Practical Training Curriculum
    To coordinate with the university’s inclusive planning and policies of the Ministry of Education, the department emphasizes practical skills, trains students’ basic professional capabilities and encourages them to obtain the relevant certificates demanded in the workplace. Therefore, on teaching philosophy, the department considers connecting the goal of learning-use-in-one in the last phase of the educational circle with industry, labor demand traits and skills in accordance with the requirements of airlines, as well as value and characteristics of practice and application for the transport service industry and detailed practical technical and vocational systems.
    On the establishment of a plan for a student educational strategy, the department mainly arranges basic theory courses and some advanced courses in year 1 and 2 to enhance language capability training and cultivate talented professionals for the airline and transport service industry with international views. In year 3, a one-year, off-campus workplace experience is implemented to change indirect knowledge into direct experience. This practice implements the idea of enhancing cooperative education and fully catching up with the world, as well as leading learning achievement with planned learning activities through in-turn experiencing campus study and workplace learning. In year 4 under the objective of cultivating students’ capabilities of independent thinking and professional integration, teachers guide students’ basic capabilities of exploring and diagnosing problems in the industry service network and industry discussions through the methods of book and newspaper discussion and industry-university research projects.


    2. Structure of the Common Educational Curriculum
    Under the schooling philosophies of foresight, practice and internationality, the general education courses of the department were established by the university’s general education center to coordinate with the schooling philosophies and the meaning of the school motto in the following objectives and are provided with supporting courses:  
     (1) To promote the understanding of multi-field knowledge, methods and connotations, and their integration to put them into use in the hospitality industry.
     (2) To cultivate mature interpersonal relationships and be provided with capabilities in expression, communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
     (3) To develop career ethics and to cultivate a view of life that serves others.
     (4) To nurture humanistic concerns and to develop traits of both a contemporary and world citizen. 
     (5) To enhance life-long study, career development and adaptability to international environmental changes, as well as worldwide views.

    3. Planning of Curriculum Implementation Strategy and Supporting Measures
    To coordinate with industry upgrades and social requirements, the required courses of the department are generally basic aptitude knowledge, professional skills and language communication training, while elective courses are diverse and professional technical courses to enrich students’ connotations and transfer knowledge into capability to help students equip themselves with professional capabilities, attitudes and the confidence required in the workplace. 
    Besides professional knowledge, students have more need for practical capabilities. The department consistently follows the German technical and vocational education method of sandwich courses of the university. By learning professional theories on-campus and having off-campus practice in an airline or other relevant industry, the student is expected to be able to put course knowledge and work experience into practice through in-turn block release system to train frontline service operating personnel in the industry fundamentals. By implementing the sandwich program, it does not only guide professional knowledge into the school curriculum, but also activates instructors’ teaching to cultivate students for airline and transport service with both theory and practice.
    Furthermore, in order to strengthen students’ language capabilities and encourage them to take tests for certification in English and Japanese, the department has opened advanced and high-level English conversation courses in year 4 with the expectation that students can develop a good knowledge in the listening, speaking, reading and writing of English (or Japanese). To strengthen practical computer skills, in addition to basic computer courses, the department has also enhanced courses on professional information of travel and airline services, such as the Abacus course, and expects students to have more opportunities to actually operate computer in favor of employment.     4. Planning of Curriculum Implementation Strategy and Curriculum Orientation of Full-Time Teachers
    The department has 8 full-time teachers, including 2 associate professors, 4 assistant professors and 2 lecturers in which the percentage of full-time teachers higher than the status of assistant professor is 75%. Current teachers come mostly from the industry with practical experience in the workplace or professional certificates, while the academic specialties include air transport management, transport technology management, human resource management, mainland affair management (major in economics and trade) and business education management. Teachers in extension education are in accordance with the department’s development prospect and direction of doctorization of the teacher structure.
